Fall of 2021, Rebecca had the privilege to work with Cabinet of Curiosity on Fields of Fire, a celebration of artists from Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood. She was especially privileged to work closely with Brandon Boler, grandson of community activist and park namesake Leo Roscoe Boler Sr. Fields of Fire marked the third year of Cabinet’s immersive outdoor rituals, designed to provide paying jobs for local artists, as well as bring together community in celebration. Under Boler’s direction, and featuring krump performed by The Chibuck Movement, Honey Crawford’s writing wove together a celebration of Lawndale with a call to action.

As this event was devised and performed during the Covid-19 pandemic, Rebecca was tasked with finding ways to make the performance accessible for Lawndale residents while simultaneously putting in place safety measures for performers and audience alike. The result was a mixed ticketed and free event, successfully balancing Cabinet’s not-for-profit business structure with a public spectacle truly for the community.
